Root Canal Treatment in Hyderabad
Single-Sitting & Rotary RCT to Help Save an Infected Tooth

Root canal treatment (RCT) is used when the pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed, infected or irreversibly damaged because of deep decay, cracks, trauma or previous dental work. At Dr.Sri Sushma Multispeciality Dental Clinic in Anandbagh, Hyderabad, we use clinical examination, digital X-rays and modern rotary endodontic techniques to diagnose the cause of tooth pain and, when appropriate, preserve the natural tooth instead of extracting it.

About This Treatment

Root Canal Treatment in Hyderabad
What You Need to Know

Patients searching for root canal treatment in Hyderabad often want to know whether RCT is painful, how much a root canal costs, whether it can be completed in one sitting and whether a crown is needed afterwards. Root canal treatment removes inflamed or infected pulp tissue from inside the tooth, cleans and shapes the root canal system, disinfects it and seals the prepared canals with a biocompatible filling material. The goal is to control infection and retain a tooth that is still restorable. At our Anandbagh, Moula Ali clinic, treatment planning may include digital radiographs, pulp sensibility testing, an apex locator and nickel-titanium rotary instruments. Some straightforward cases can be completed in one appointment, while teeth with significant infection, complex anatomy, retreatment needs or persistent drainage may require more than one visit. After RCT, the final restoration is chosen according to how much healthy tooth structure remains and the forces placed on that tooth. Patients visit us from Anandbagh, Moula Ali, Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Neredmet, Sainikpuri, AS Rao Nagar, ECIL, Secunderabad and nearby Hyderabad areas for tooth pain assessment and root canal care.

How It Works

Your Treatment Journey
Step by Step

1
Diagnosis & Digital X-Ray
We examine the tooth, review your symptoms and use dental X-rays and pulp tests when needed to determine whether the pulp is inflamed, infected or already non-vital. The tooth is also assessed to confirm that it is restorable.
2
Local Anaesthesia & Isolation
Local anaesthesia is used to keep the procedure comfortable. The tooth is isolated to create a clean working field and reduce contamination during treatment.
3
Canal Cleaning & Shaping
The pulp chamber is accessed and the canals are cleaned and shaped using endodontic instruments, including rotary nickel-titanium files where appropriate. Irrigating solutions are used to disinfect the canal system.
4
Canal Filling & Seal
Once adequately cleaned and dried, the prepared root canals are filled with a biocompatible material such as gutta-percha and sealed. A temporary or permanent restoration is placed depending on the treatment plan.
5
Final Restoration & Review
Back teeth and teeth with substantial loss of structure often need cuspal protection with a crown or onlay after RCT. The final restoration is selected according to remaining tooth structure, bite and fracture risk.
Treatment Options

Types of Root Canal Treatment in Hyderabad

Multi-Visit Root Canal Treatment
Some teeth benefit from treatment over more than one visit, particularly when there is significant infection, swelling, drainage, complex anatomy or difficulty obtaining adequate canal disinfection in one appointment. Medication may be placed inside the canals between visits before final sealing.
Used when additional infection control or observation is clinically appropriate
Temporary sealing protects the tooth between appointments
Final canal filling is completed after the tooth is ready to be sealed
Root Canal Retreatment
A previously root canal-treated tooth can occasionally develop new symptoms or infection because of missed anatomy, leakage, a new cavity, fracture or breakdown of the restoration. Retreatment involves reopening the tooth, removing previous canal filling material where possible, cleaning the canals again and reassessing whether the tooth can be predictably retained.
Assessment of previously treated teeth with pain, swelling or radiographic infection
Additional imaging such as CBCT may be recommended for selected complex cases
Prognosis depends on tooth structure, root anatomy, restorability and the cause of failure

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is root canal treatment painful?
Root canal treatment is performed with local anaesthesia, so the aim is to keep the tooth comfortable during treatment. You may feel pressure or vibration, and some teeth with severe inflammation can be more difficult to numb than routine cases. Mild tenderness after treatment can occur for a few days, especially when there was infection or pain before the procedure. Contact the clinic if pain is severe, worsening, or associated with increasing swelling.
How much does root canal treatment cost in Hyderabad?
Cost depends on the tooth, the number of canals, complexity, whether retreatment is needed and the final restoration required; molars generally have more canals than front teeth. The crown after treatment is priced separately. Our root canal cost guide explains what changes the fee, and exact treatment and cost are confirmed after examination and X-rays.
Can root canal treatment be completed in one sitting?
Yes, many straightforward root canal cases can be completed in one appointment when the tooth can be adequately cleaned, disinfected and sealed safely. Teeth with significant infection, persistent drainage, complex anatomy or retreatment requirements may need additional visits. The number of appointments is decided after assessing the individual tooth.
How long does a root canal treatment take?
Appointment length varies with the tooth and the number and shape of its canals. A relatively straightforward front tooth may take less time than a molar with several canals. Many appointments are completed within roughly 60–90 minutes, but complex or retreatment cases may take longer or require a second visit.
Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?
Not every root canal-treated tooth automatically needs the same restoration. Molars and premolars that have lost substantial tooth structure commonly benefit from a crown or other cuspal-coverage restoration because they are exposed to heavy chewing forces. Some front teeth with adequate remaining structure may be restored differently. The decision depends on how much healthy tooth remains, cracks, bite forces and the size of the access and previous restorations.
What are the common signs that a tooth may need RCT?
Possible signs include spontaneous or persistent toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling, a recurring pimple on the gum, tooth discolouration or a deep cavity close to the pulp. These symptoms do not prove that RCT is required. Diagnosis is based on the history, clinical examination, pulp tests and dental radiographs.
Is it better to have a root canal or remove the tooth?
When a tooth has a reasonable long-term prognosis and can be restored, root canal treatment may allow it to be retained. Extraction may be more appropriate when the tooth is severely fractured, has inadequate remaining structure, advanced periodontal support loss or another condition that makes predictable restoration unlikely. We discuss both options when they are clinically relevant.
Where can I get root canal treatment near Anandbagh or Malkajgiri?
Our clinic is in Anandbagh, Moula Ali, Hyderabad and also serves patients from Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Neredmet, ECIL, AS Rao Nagar, Sainikpuri and nearby Secunderabad areas. If you have persistent tooth pain, swelling or sensitivity, an examination can determine whether the tooth needs a filling, root canal treatment or another form of care.
What can I eat after a root canal?
Wait until the numbness has worn off before eating, so you don't bite your cheek or tongue. For the first few days, soft foods such as idli, curd rice or dal are easier, chewed on the other side. Avoid hard or sticky food on the treated tooth until its final filling or crown is fitted, because a weakened tooth can crack.
Is pain or swelling after a root canal normal?
Some tenderness when biting and mild swelling are common. They usually ease over a few days and should settle within a couple of weeks; the painkillers we advise help. Contact the clinic if the pain is severe or getting worse, the swelling keeps increasing, you have a fever, or your bite feels high on the treated tooth.
Can a root canal fail, and can it be redone?
Yes. A treated tooth can become infected again if a narrow or curved canal was missed, if the filling or crown leaks or is fitted late, or if new decay or a crack lets bacteria in. Many such teeth can be treated again: the old root filling is removed, and the canals are cleaned and sealed again. If that is unlikely to work, surgery at the root tip or removing the tooth may be discussed.
Does root canal treatment have side effects?
Tenderness for a few days is the most common. A root-canal-treated tooth can become more brittle, which is why back teeth often need a crown, and it may darken slightly over time. There is no credible scientific evidence that root canal treatment causes cancer or illness elsewhere in the body; that idea comes from early-1900s research that could not be reproduced.
Can children have root canal treatment?
Yes. A milk tooth with deep decay can often be saved with a nerve treatment designed for children (a pulpotomy or pulpectomy), which keeps it in place until the adult tooth is ready to come through. A child's newly erupted adult teeth can be treated too. It is done under local anaesthesia, and the approach depends on the child's age, the tooth and how much of it can be saved.
Is root canal treatment safe during pregnancy?
Yes. The American Dental Association says treatments such as root canals can be done safely during pregnancy, and that delaying treatment can lead to more complex problems. The local anaesthetics used are considered safe, as are dental X-rays at any stage of pregnancy. Tell us you are pregnant so the treatment and any medicines can be planned around it.
What is microscopic root canal treatment, and do you offer it?
It is root canal treatment done under a dental operating microscope, and it is available at the clinic. The microscope's magnification and light help the dentist see inside the tooth: to find narrow or extra canals, since a missed canal is one of the main reasons root canals fail, and to spot cracks or blocked canals. It is particularly useful for complex teeth and for redoing an earlier root canal.
Can I have sedation if I'm nervous about root canal treatment?
Yes. For patients who are very anxious, root canal treatment can be done with sedation as well as local anaesthesia. Sedation helps you relax; you usually stay awake and able to respond, and may remember little of the appointment. Your medical history is checked first. Depending on the type of sedation, you may need an adult to take you home and may not be able to drive afterwards; you'll be told in advance.
